This: Layton Open To Liberal/NDP Coalition
Was smart.
If you want to steal their voters and replace them as the official opposition, why wouldn't you say you identify with them?
Nice shot, Jack.

Jack is looking good!
This one could go either way. The lefty libs may feel safe voting lib because there will be a coalition anyway. NDs lose. Righty libs may go conservative because there will be a lefty coalition. Libs lose. Maybe those who would focus their votes to work against the conservatives will vote their first choice because there will be a coalition anyway. Cons win.
Looks like Jack is conceding defeat already NDs lose.

The New Democrats' problem was that they are/have been identified as too left wing. Acknowledging they could work with a centrist party is a play for soft Liberal votes. To make the NDP a more positive option in Liberal voter minds.
And you're right..it will scare the right leaning Liberal voters to the Conservatives.
Net benefit in both scenarios is to the NDP.
As in anything in politics, it's a risk..but I think it's a smart risk taken by the New Democrats.
Voting Lib to 'stop Harper' just died.
Vote Dipper, be part of the coalition!
And welcome all rightie Libs, to the only centrist party in Canada.
